The Katsina State Government has thrown the entire Nigerian military fraternity and the nation at large into profound mourning after officially confirming the tragic death of retired Major General Abubakar Rabe while trapped in the brutal custody of armed bandits.
Disclosing the devastating development in an emotional security update issued on Saturday evening, June 13, 2026, the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Muazu, revealed that the highly decorated retired senior military officer succumbed to acute medical complications arising from severe diabetes and chronic hypertension while being held hostage in an undisclosed forest safehouse.
The state administration expressed deep corporate sorrow over the harrowing outcome, revealing that joint tactical forces, intelligence cells, and regional air assets had executed extensive, round-the-clock combat maneuvers over the past 14 days to track down the terrorist cell and secure the General's safe release, all to no avail.
"It is with profound sadness that we confirm the General’s death while in bandits’ captivity," Dr. Nasiru Muazu stated online.
"Despite the relentless and concerted efforts of the State Government and various security agencies to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy."
The tragic incident began exactly two weeks ago on Saturday, May 30, 2026, when the retired Major General was traveling along the notorious Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli corridor within the Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
His commuter vehicle was violently ambushed by heavily armed bandits, who abducted the senior officer alongside his beloved wife, Hajiya Amina Abubakar, and their personal driver, Abdullahi Sa’idu.
Reacting to the painful loss, the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, extended his heartfelt condolences to the General's immediate family, describing the loss as a dark, sobering moment for the federation that underscores the desperate need for community intelligence collaboration to completely eradicate banditry across the North-West zone.
