Samsung is at the center of tech discussions across Africa and globally after media outlets published the definitive lists of Galaxy devices that will—and will not—be eligible for the upcoming Android 17 (One UI 9) software upgrade.
The topic spiked in search traffic following Google’s announcement that the stable version of Android 17 is on track for a June 2026 release.
While newer models and recent flagships are clear for the upgrade, a massive wave of popular older devices are officially hitting their end-of-life cycle for major OS support.

Because Samsung's extended 7-year update policy only officially started with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 lines, older generations are bound by the legacy 4-year promise.
Consequently, former flagship heavyweights like the Galaxy S22 series (S22, S22+, S22 Ultra) and the Z Fold 4 / Z Flip 4 will completely miss out on Android 17.
High-volume mid-range devices heavily used across regional markets, such as the Galaxy A33, A53, A73, and early M-series phones, have also reached the end of their eligibility matrix and will remain on One UI 8 / Android 16.
