A Kenyan High Court on Friday, May 29, 2026, issued an emergency conservatory order temporarily halting the grand opening and operational rollout of a specialized Ebola quarantine and isolation facility earmarked for United States nationals.
The planned installation was scheduled to open its doors on the very same day at the Laikipia Air Base—positioned roughly 200 kilometers from the capital city of Nairobi—with a capacity of 50 isolated treatment beds strictly managed by active American medical personnel.
The facility was designed to intercept and quarantine U.S. citizens arriving from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which is currently combatting a resurgent wave of the high-fatality hemorrhagic virus.
The sudden legal roadblock was triggered by a public-interest petition filed by the Katiba Institute, a prominent domestic human rights advocacy group.
