A major public health emergency unfolded in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, after more than 100 students and teachers were rushed to various hospitals following exposure to a mysterious and suffocating chemical odour.
The environmental incident primarily hit the Anglican Girls Grammar School in Obalende and Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School at Epe Garage.
Victims reportedly complained of sudden stomach aches, severe body weakness, and acute breathing difficulties shortly after inhaling the strange atmospheric substance.
Emergency responders quickly evacuated the affected individuals to the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, while others were taken to nearby private medical facilities for urgent clinical stabilization.

According to an official environmental briefing, state officials immediately deployed monitoring teams to trace the root cause of the atmospheric contamination.
"The ministry of education, ministry of environment, security agencies, and local government authorities are jointly handling the situation," stated the Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya. "An Air Quality Monitoring Device installed at Ijebu Ode Grammar School detected elevated methane concentrations."
The commissioner explained that specialized devices registered alarming methane levels of up to 13,500 parts per million (ppm) within the immediate school environments.
"The methane concentration remained below the lower explosive limit but required immediate technical investigation and precautionary measures," Oresanya added. "The state government will activate a multi-agency environmental and public health assessment team to investigate the incident."
Local residents have been strongly cautioned to avoid lighting open flames near any areas displaying unusual gas smells.
Public health officials also urged community members to seek immediate medical intervention if they begin experiencing dizziness, severe headaches, or sudden respiratory discomfort.
