Police Rescue Victim, Arrest Suspect After High-Speed Chase in Akure

Ondo State Police Command patrol vehicle on a road in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command successfully rescued a kidnap victim and apprehended one suspect following a dramatic car chase in Akure on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

The suspect, identified as Adegbenro Adeola, was part of a syndicate that had abducted a resident, Kayode Alaba, from his home along Irese Road.

The breakthrough occurred when operatives on patrol along the Oba-Ile axis spotted a red Toyota Camry where a passenger was screaming for help.

Acting on the distress signal, the police initiated a pursuit.

In an attempt to escape, the kidnappers pushed the victim out of the moving vehicle. Undeterred, the team continued the chase, eventually catching Adeola while his accomplices managed to flee.

“The victim has since been rescued and is currently receiving medical attention,” DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command’s PPRO, confirmed.

According to Qubes Magazine, the suspect is currently providing useful information to the Violence Crime Response Unit in Akure.

This arrest comes as the Nigeria Police Force intensifies its crackdown on kidnapping syndicates across the country, following similar successful operations in Kaduna earlier this month.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious vehicles immediately.
