The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched a scathing attack on factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing leaders like Seyi Makinde and Taminu Turaki of undermining democracy.
Speaking during a media chat in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike alleged that certain groups are deliberately ignoring judicial pronouncements to create "illegal" structures within the party.
Wike dismissed recent claims of a new interim leadership arrangement, labeling the move as fraudulent.
“You cannot disobey court judgments and then turn around to deceive Nigerians that you have a legitimate structure. That is not how democracy works,” Wike stated.
He challenged the opposing camp to open a physical office if they truly believe in their parallel structure, mocking them for "forming a leadership in their bedroom."
According to Qubes Magazine, the PDP has been embroiled in a legal tug-of-war over its National Working Committee (NWC) leadership for months.
Wike maintained that the judiciary has already provided clarity on who should lead the party until a lawful convention is held.
He expressed disappointment in senior lawyers and party elders who he claims are bending the law for personal gain, calling the situation a "tragedy of our system."
