"2023 Momentum Won't Repeat": Governor Okpebholo Questions Peter Obi's 2027 Support

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo discussing 2027 elections on Channels TV

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has predicted that the intense political momentum seen during the 2023 general elections will not be replicated in 2027.

In a Friday, May 1, 2026, interview on Channels Television, Okpebholo expressed skepticism regarding Peter Obi’s ability to maintain a strong support base, particularly in Anambra State.

Okpebholo defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, including the fuel subsidy removal, stating that the President has taken the "difficult decisions" avoided by previous leaders.

Addressing local security, the Governor clarified his previous advice to Obi to notify the state before visiting Edo.

“Opposition visits have occasionally been followed by violence. Peter Obi requires adequate state security to prevent clashes,” Okpebholo alleged.
