The Nigerian movie industry has been hit with another tragedy following the death of veteran actress Oby Kechere, famously known as "Ms. Koi Koi."
The actress, who gained legendary status for her role as the iconic teacher in the hit comedy Aki na Ukwa, passed away on April 27, 2026, after a prolonged illness.
Confirming the news, the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) President, Uche Agbo, described Kechere as a pillar of the Abuja chapter.
Fans and colleagues have flooded social media with tributes, recalling her "eloquence and charisma" on screen.
Her death comes just days after the passing of fellow actor Solomon Akiyesi, marking a somber week for Nollywood.
