The Nigerian Army has issued a strong public warning advising citizens to remain highly vigilant against a growing wave of fraudulent social media accounts impersonating senior military officers across online platforms, particularly Facebook.
In an official security advisory published on Sunday via its verified X handle, the military high command disclosed that cybercriminals have actively designed deceptive profiles to exploit the names and administrative weight of top brass to execute malicious online scams.
According to the official defense statement, tech-savvy fraudsters recently created fake Facebook accounts operating under the name of the Deputy Chief of Standards and Evaluation (Army), Major General Raymond Utsaha.
In a bid to make the fraudulent digital personas look authentic, the perpetrators used the official portrait photograph of the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi, on the profiles.

The Army emphasized that these coordinated digital impersonations were launched with the malicious intent of deceiving the general public, extracting illegal funds, and staging unauthorized online engagements under false pretenses.
The military authority categorically stated that senior military commanders do not conduct official state transactions, award lucrative procurement contracts, solicit personal financial aid, or handle sensitive institutional matters via personal social media channels or unverified online profiles.
The general public is strongly urged to completely disregard any friend requests, job or contract promises, or financial solicitations originating from these cyber accounts, while security agencies continue to aggressively monitor digital spaces to track down and prosecute the syndicate behind the identity theft.
