The Lagos State Government has announced a impressive 61.52 percent pass rate among public secondary school students sponsored by the state for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The baseline metric tracks students who obtained a minimum of five credits, including critical core subjects English Language and Mathematics.
The state’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, made the disclosure on Friday during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
Highlighting the state's ongoing commitment to eliminating financial barriers within the regional education sector, the commissioner also revealed that the government has fully paid ₦1.4 billion to cover the registration fees of 45,598 Senior Secondary School III students sitting for the upcoming 2026 WASSCE.

According to Alli-Balogun, the notable academic upward trend directly reflects the successful implementation of targeted educational reforms and strategic learning interventions introduced under the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.
He pointed directly to the Eko Learners Support Initiative, launched in January 2025, as a pivotal program designed to bridge stubborn learning gaps, enhance structured examination preparedness, and equalize opportunities across all public school districts.
To further entrench these academic gains, the ministry has overseen the widespread distribution of specialized instructional texts alongside advanced digital infrastructure.
In March 2026, the state deployed smart learning devices to various secondary institutions to deepen digital literacy.
Additionally, the establishment of the state-of-the-art Teachers Digital Hub in January 2026 has successfully enabled live-streamed, high-quality instructional sessions to be broadcast simultaneously to multiple classrooms across Lagos.
