Fresh controversy has trailed the continued detention of the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, following allegations that leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were denied access to him at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) facility.
The high-profile ADC delegation included the party’s National Secretary and former Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, and the Secretary of the ADC Manifesto and Policy Committee, Salihu Lukman.
The political leaders reportedly visited the anti-graft agency's facility in an attempt to see the former governor but were turned away, with specific details surrounding the refusal remaining unclear.
The incident occurs just days after the ICPC strongly dismissed public claims that El-Rufai was being subjected to poor welfare, isolation, or denied medical care while in custody.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing, ICPC spokesperson Okor Odey described the negative reports as "false and misleading," clarifying that the commission maintains standard, strict visitation windows.
"Visitors are allowed into ICPC detention facilities between 9:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.," Odey stated, noting that a previous incident involving El-Rufai’s wife occurred because she arrived well outside the approved operational hours.
The commission maintained that authorized legal representatives, family members, and official medical personnel are regularly granted supervised access.
However, the El-Rufai family has strongly disputed the commission's narrative, accusing the agency of violating an active Kaduna High Court order that explicitly permits the former governor unrestricted access to his legal team and independent physicians.
Family members claim that the ICPC's internal medical team recommended a follow-up assessment after recent tests, but independent doctors were subsequently blocked at the gates.
"When you see a doctor and you run tests, you are expected to see the doctor back so that he explains what the problem is. He was denied access to the doctor," alleged El-Rufai’s second wife, Hasiat.
