The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, successfully arraigned a notorious impersonator, Salifu Olije Mustapha, before the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Kubwa, Abuja, for running an illegal extortion racket while posing as both a military officer and an operative of the anti-graft agency.
Mustapha was brought before presiding judge Justice A.I. Akobi on a definitive four-count criminal charge bordering on deliberate impersonation, misrepresentation, and fraudulent extortion.
According to institutional briefs filed by EFCC prosecution counsel R.U. Adaga, the suspect was caught red-handed operating inside a Toyota Corolla vehicle bearing registration number KTU399GT.

In March 2026, Mustapha, while falsely presenting himself as a ranking Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officer, allegedly abetted an accomplice named Haruna Mamuda and another fleeing suspect named Abubakar.
The criminal syndicate dressed completely in counterfeit EFCC operational uniforms and invaded Sheriff Plaza in the high-brow Wuse II district of Abuja.
Investigations revealed that the team routinely harassed innocent motorists, executing fake stop-and-search operations to extort massive financial settlements from vulnerable citizens under false pretenses.
When the charges were read to him in the courtroom, Mustapha pleaded guilty to all four counts, throwing himself at the mercy of the court.
Consequently, Justice Akobi adjourned the criminal matter until June 1, 2026, for formal conviction and sentencing, while the EFCC continues its hunt for the remaining members of the uniform-cloning syndicate.
