The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, has asserted that acts of terrorism have drastically reduced across the geopolitical zones of Nigeria, awarding the military and allied security forces an operational performance score of between 65 and 70 percent.
Speaking during a live television interview on Arise News on Friday, May 29, 2026, the defense chief stated that while pockets of crime, banditry, and kidnapping still persist, the overall security landscape has recorded significant structural improvements compared to the high-intensity crises of previous years.
Analyzing the root causes driving contemporary security vulnerabilities, General Musa attributed a vast majority of the domestic kidnapping syndicates to a deep systemic breakdown of traditional family values and poor societal reorientation.

He lamented a rising trend where internal family members orchestrate the abduction of close relatives in a desperate bid to acquire quick money through shortcuts rather than embracing legitimate labor.
Furthermore, the Defence Minister noted that several high-profile abductions are heavily laced with undercurrents of deliberate political sabotage.
He questioned the logical rationale behind criminal cells demanding unrealistic ransoms of one billion naira from impoverished victims who clearly lack economic means, suggesting such demands are strategically engineered by sponsors to paint the ruling administration as administratively weak and portray the nation as entirely ungovernable.
He concluded by thanking the Nigerian public for providing improved tactical intelligence to help troops make critical inroads.
