The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has strongly condemned the recent coordinated attacks on three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, warning that terrorists appear determined to overrun the entire South-West region.
According to a formal statement released on Sunday by the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, the body expressed deep concern over the vulnerability of educational institutions in the region.
The group revealed that its leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, was profoundly saddened by the unfortunate incidents, which occurred during the very week he celebrated his 100th birthday.
The elder statesman extended his heartfelt sympathy to the victims and their families, while offering prayers for the rapid recovery of all injured individuals.

Afenifere openly questioned the effectiveness of current regional security measures, asking what had happened to the high-profile resolutions made by the six regional governors, the CCTV infrastructure built in Ogun State, and the surveillance aircraft purchased by the Oyo State government.
The group argued that the current responses from South-West leadership do not reflect a full grasp of the critical situation at hand.
The socio-political organization emphasized that local leadership must step up immediately to protect citizens from expanding security threats. In the statement, the group noted that:
“In view of the fact that the primary duty of government is the security and welfare of the people, governments in the South-Western states of Nigeria must prove that they are alive to their constitutionally assigned responsibilities.
Everything must be done to ensure that no area in the region experiences an attack by kidnappers and bandits anymore.”
Afenifere further stated that the six governors within the region must make public safety their absolute priority, ensuring that criminal elements do not establish a foothold anywhere from Lagos up to Kogi, including Edo and Delta states.
However, the organization praised the quick response of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the launch of the Police’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), expressing hope that these measures will stop future banditry.
In closing, the group reminded state leaders that while the Federal Government handles nationwide security, "governments have a sacred responsibility to use the resources at their disposal to secure their people and guarantee their welfare."
