The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced the adoption of the direct primary election mode for its upcoming 2026 presidential primary election.
According to guidelines released by the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the nationwide internal election will occur simultaneously across all 8,809 wards in the country on May 24, 2026, granting all registered members the platform to vote for their preferred presidential flagbearer.
Under the direct primary guidelines signed by the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, results from individual wards will be transparently collated at the local government level before final transmission to the national collation center in Abuja.
The ruling party clarified that the electoral protocols conform with guidelines previously forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on May 15, 2026.

Former Senate President, Senator Pius Anyim, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Presidential Primary Election Committee to oversee the national assignment.
The high-powered committee also includes prominent political figures such as Senator Ken Nnamani, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, Yakubu Dogara, Idris Wada, and Grace Titi Laoye-Ponle, while Senator Sanusi Musa will serve as the secretary.
A separate primary appeal panel will be led by former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume.
To ensure seamless supervision across sub-national regions, the APC designated several serving state executives as state coordinators. Notably, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara—who recently withdrew from the state’s gubernatorial primary race—was named the coordinator for Rivers State.
Other strategic state coordinators appointed to manage local government collations include Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Babagana Zulum (Borno), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), and Umar Namadi (Jigawa).
The designated coordinators will carry full administrative responsibility for gathering and presenting their state’s collated results to the primary election headquarters on May 24.
