President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
This promotion elevates her from the Minister of State role she previously held within the same ministry.
The transition follows the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue his Bauchi State governorship ambitions for the 2027 elections.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the move is part of a broader strategy to reposition Nigeria’s global partnerships.
To fill the vacancy created by the elevation, the President nominated Sola Enikanolaiye, a veteran diplomat from Kogi State, as the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending Senate confirmation.
Enikanolaiye brings over 30 years of experience, having served as a Permanent Secretary and Senior Special Assistant to the President.
President Tinubu urged the new appointees to prioritize "economic diplomacy and the welfare of Nigerians abroad."
