Ibadan Tragedy: Two Policemen Arrested Over Death of Commercial Motorcyclist in Moniya

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two police officers linked to the death of a commercial motorcyclist, Sanni Salisu, in the Moniya area of Ibadan.


The incident, which occurred on April 24, 2026, involved officers from the Kara Police Outpost who were allegedly conducting an "unauthorised stop-and-search" operation. 


According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, Salisu reportedly suffered an epileptic seizure and slumped during the encounter.

He was later confirmed dead at Modupe Hospital.


The tragedy sparked outrage, leading angry residents to destroy properties at the local station. 


"In view of the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate arrest of the officers involved," Ayanlade stated. 


The officers are currently in custody facing disciplinary actions for carrying out illegal duties.
