Infrastructure Transformation: Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway to Slash Lagos Travel Time to Six Hours
Senator Adamu Aliero has revealed that the completion of the long-awaited Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway will revolutionize Nigerian travel, reducing the current 13-hour journey from Sokoto to Lagos to less than six hours.
The project, which has been in the planning stages for over 50 years, is finally becoming a reality under the current administration.
Speaking during a plenary session on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Aliero noted that the Senate is currently reviewing a $516.3 million loan request to fund sections 1, 1A, and 1B of the project.
Unlike traditional asphalt, the superhighway utilizes high-standard concrete technology. Aliero confirmed that 45 kilometers of the road are already completed and equipped with solar-powered streetlights.
The highway will pass through Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, and Ogun states, serving as a critical economic corridor between the Northwest and the Southwest.
