A tragic explosion caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has claimed the lives of a driver and a motorcyclist in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon along the Lumma-Babanna road, a route currently serving as an alternative after terrorists destroyed a major bridge in March.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident through spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun.
It was reported that the driver, who was transporting a load of yams, struck the device, while a motorcyclist at the same location was shot and killed by attackers who had planted the IED.
This latest attack follows the strategic destruction of the Lumma-Babanna-New Bussa Bridge on March 23, 2026.
Security experts believe terrorists operating from the Kainji National Park are intentionally destroying infrastructure to block security forces and dominate local trade routes near the Benin Republic border.
