The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has officially inaugurated a seven-member task force in Kano State to curb the circulation of fake, counterfeit, and unwholesome food and drugs.
Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, highlighted the strategic importance of the move, noting that Kano’s status as a commercial hub makes it a high-risk zone for substandard products.

The task force, chaired by Kamilu Mudi-Salisu (Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Kano Ministry of Health), is empowered to conduct raids, seal illegal premises, and prosecute offenders.
NAFDAC revealed that this team will act as a federal operational arm, focusing on intelligence gathering and surveillance to protect public health.
The Kano State Government, through Secretary to the Government Umar Ibrahim, welcomed the initiative, citing the urgent need to address drug abuse and addiction, which affects over 70% of the state's youth population.
