Iran Seizes Two Commercial Vessels in Strait of Hormuz Amid Escalating Global Tensions
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has seized two commercial vessels—the Panama-flagged MSC Francesca and the Liberia-flagged Epaminodas—in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The seizure occurred Wednesday morning, with Iranian forces directing the ships toward the Iranian coast northeast of Oman.
According to AFP, this escalation comes as the US Navy attempts to maintain a blockade of Iranian ports while Tehran insists that all vessels must seek permission to transit the gateway, which handles a fifth of the world’s oil and LNG.
Reports from the UKMTO indicated that at least one ship was fired upon by IRGC gunboats, causing damage to its bridge.
Despite the volatility, Donald Trump has hinted that a second round of peace talks hosted by Pakistan could take place within the next three days. "It’s possible!" Trump reportedly stated, though Vice President JD Vance has delayed his travel to Pakistan pending a formal proposal from Iran’s "fractured" leadership.
Meanwhile, the conflict continues to spill into Lebanon, where Israeli strikes and Hezbollah rocket attacks have severely strained a fragile 10-day ceasefire.
