The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has officially approved the dismissal and criminal prosecution of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman following the viral execution of a suspect in Effurun, Delta State.
The decision follows a review by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), which found the officer in gross violation of Force Order 237 regarding the use of firearms.
The victim, 28-year-old Mene Ogidi, was shot dead on April 26, 2026, despite being in custody—an incident that sparked nationwide outrage after a video surfaced online.
Addressing the press in Abuja, IGP Disu stated: “No uniform confers the right to take life outside the provisions of the law.”
He confirmed that all officers involved in the team have been recommended for dismissal and will be handed over to judicial authorities for unlawful homicide.
The IGP also extended condolences to the Ogidi family, promising that justice would be served transparently.
