The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Nigeria Sanctions Committee, has released a comprehensive list identifying 48 individuals and 12 entities allegedly involved in terrorism financing.
The list includes high-profile figures such as Finland-based IPOB factional leader Simon Ekpa and Tukur Mamu, the publisher of Desert Herald.
The disclosure comes amid growing pressure on the government to dismantle the financial networks supporting groups like Boko Haram, ISWAP, and the Lakurawa Sect.
While the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, recently disclosed that 386 terrorism convictions have been secured out of 508 cases, security experts are calling for immediate enforcement of this new list.
“Publishing a list is only the beginning. The real test is what happens next: arrests, prosecution, and convictions,” noted retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Salami Abduraheem.
According to Sunday Punch, entities such as Settings Bureau De Change Ltd and West and East Africa General Trading were also blacklisted.
Experts warn that unless financial assets are frozen immediately, the exercise risks being merely symbolic.
