Arsenal’s pursuit of their first Premier League title in 22 years suffered a massive setback on Saturday as they fell to a "lethargic" 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth at the Emirates.
The loss, which manager Mikel Arteta described as a "big punch in the face," marks the Gunners' third consecutive domestic defeat across all competitions.
The result leaves the door wide open for Manchester City.
Should Pep Guardiola’s side win their upcoming fixtures against Chelsea and Burnley, they will pull level on points with Arsenal with just five games remaining.
Arteta, who was without key stars like Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, refused to make excuses for the poor performance.
"There are no grey areas. Today there were some very basic things that we did extremely badly. It's a terrible feeling... but we have to embrace this challenge and go for it," Arteta stated.
As reported by Sky Sports, pundit Paul Merson labeled the performance "sloppy," warning that the "bottling" narrative will intensify unless Arsenal can find an immediate response in their midweek European clash against Sporting.
