The Federal Government has officially commenced the payment of long-awaited arrears arising from the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) review for members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).
In a letter sighted on Monday, NARD’s Publicity and Social Secretary, Dr. Abdulmajid Ibrahim, confirmed that the disbursements cover between one and six months for various members.
While many doctors have already confirmed receipt of the funds, Ibrahim noted that the August component is facing minor administrative hurdles and may be delayed by up to two weeks.
“The leadership of NARD is pleased to inform all members that payment of the outstanding 25/35 CONMESS review arrears has commenced,” the statement read.
The CONMESS review has historically been a point of contention, often leading to industrial actions that paralyze federal and state hospitals.
This progress is seen as a critical step in addressing the welfare concerns of resident doctors, who remain at the forefront of the battle against "brain drain" in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
