Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has strongly criticized President Donald Trump following his recent verbal assault on Pope Leo XIV.
Meloni, leader of the Brothers of Italy party, described Trump’s comments regarding the Holy Father as "unacceptable," emphasizing the Pope’s right to condemn war and advocate for peace.
The friction began Sunday night when Trump took to social media to blast the first American Pope, calling him “WEAK on Crime” and "terrible for Foreign Policy."
The President’s ire was reportedly triggered by the Pontiff’s criticism of the administration’s treatment of migrants and the escalating U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran.
“I’m not afraid of the Trump administration or of speaking out loudly about the message of the Gospel,” Pope Leo XIV told reporters aboard the papal plane.
In a bizarre twist, Trump also posted—and later deleted—an AI-generated image of himself depicted as Jesus Christ healing the sick, later claiming he believed the image showed him as a doctor.
