Federal Government Charges Six Individuals with Treason Over Alleged Plot Against President Tinubu
The Federal Government on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, arraigned six suspects before a Federal High Court in Abuja over an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.
The defendants, facing a 13-count charge bordering on terrorism, treason, and waging war against the state, all pleaded not guilty.
The group includes Erasmus Ochegobia Victor (a retired Navy Captain), Ahmed Ibrahim (a serving Police Inspector), and Abdukadir Sani Zaria (an Islamic cleric).
The Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, successfully applied for the defendants to be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) pending trial.
Presiding Judge Joyce Abdulmalik rejected oral bail applications, directing defense lawyers to file formal requests.
Notably, former Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva was mentioned in the charges but is reportedly at large. The court has fixed April 27, 2026, for the commencement of an accelerated hearing.
