Tragedy in Benue: Community Vigilantes Hack Corps Member to Death Over Stolen Bike Allegation

Benue State police station representing the arrest of vigilantes in the killing of Ben Agir

A serving corps member, Ben Agir, has been tragically hacked to death by community vigilantes in the Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident, which occurred late Sunday night in the Mbajor Settlement, was allegedly sparked by suspicions that the deceased was in possession of a stolen motorcycle.

According to the Chairman of Buruku LGA, Raymond Aondoakura, the vigilantes beat the victim into a coma before he could present his identification.

He later died at the hospital.

In response, the council has suspended and disbanded all local vigilante activities. While the state NYSC spokesperson, Mrs. Veronica Ogwuche, confirmed the victim was a corps member, she noted that records suggest he was serving in Gombe State rather than Benue.

The suspects have been arrested and handed over to the police.
