US Military Intensifies Operations in Strait of Hormuz; Destroys Key Iranian Missile Relays
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Saturday that Iran’s ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz has been significantly "degraded" following a series of precision strikes.
Admiral Brad Cooper confirmed that multiple 5,000-pound bunker-busting bombs were dropped on a hardened underground facility used to store anti-ship cruise missiles and mobile launchers.
The operation targeted not only the weaponry but also intelligence support sites and missile radar relays used to monitor international ship movements.
This escalation comes as Iran has largely closed off the Strait, the gateway for one-fifth of the world’s oil supply.
The military standoff has had an immediate impact on the global economy, with North Sea Brent crude soaring 50% over the past month to surpass $105 a barrel.
In a recent statement, Donald Trump called on NATO allies to step up their security efforts in the region while suggesting that the United States is nearing its military objectives.
“Iran’s ability to threaten freedom of navigation... is degraded as a result, and we will not stop pursuing these targets,” Admiral Cooper warned in a video message on X.
According to CENTCOM, the US military has struck over 8,000 targets, including 130 Iranian vessels, in the past three weeks.
While these 5,000-pound bombs are devastating, they are less powerful than the 30,000-pound munitions utilized against nuclear sites last year, signaling a strategic but high-intensity approach to the current crisis.
