Maiduguri on High Alert: Two Suicide Bombers Still at Large, Says Governor Zulum

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has raised a fresh security alarm, revealing that two suspected suicide bombers remain at large in Maiduguri.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin, the governor disclosed that intelligence reports identified a total of five attackers who infiltrated the city during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

While three have already detonated their devices, security forces are still tracking the remaining two.

The coordinated attacks, which occurred across locations including the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and local markets, have claimed at least 23 lives and left over 100 people injured.

Zulum attributed the breach to the intense military pressure in the Sambisa Forest, which often forces insurgents to disperse into civilian populations.

"The intelligence we have received so far indicates that five suicide bombers infiltrated Maiduguri... the whereabouts of the remaining two are still being investigated," Zulum stated.

In response to the tragedy, President Bola Tinubu has ordered security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee operations.

Despite the current tension, Governor Zulum assured residents that surveillance has been intensified to prevent further carnage.
