Edo Police Arrest Students Involved in Viral Igbinedion Education Centre Assault; Suspects to Face Family Court

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of all students featured in a disturbing viral video showing a brutal assault and bullying incident at the Igbinedion Education Centre.

Police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem revealed on Friday that the arrests followed a "painstaking investigation" into the footage that has since sparked nationwide condemnation.

The police investigation traced the root of the violence to a verbal dispute where a male student allegedly insulted the late father of two female students.

This led to an after-school attack on the boy, during which a parent who tried to intervene was also physically assaulted and had her clothes ripped.

The crisis escalated the following day when the son of the assaulted woman carried out a "revenge attack" on the brother of the two girls—an incident that was recorded and posted online.

“The suspects, identified as minors, will be arraigned before the Family Court in line with laws guiding juvenile justice,” the police confirmed.

In response to the security lapse, Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika has ordered an immediate reinforcement of the Operation Safe Schools Initiative across Edo State.
