Panic as Gas Station Explosion Rocks Calabar South; Several Residents Injured
A Saturday morning explosion at a gas filling station in the Edibe Edibe area of Calabar South Local Government Area has left several residents with varying degrees of injuries.
The blast, which occurred in the heart of the Cross River State capital, triggered widespread panic as thick smoke and flames engulfed parts of the station and nearby structures.
Eyewitnesses described hearing a deafening roar that sent passersby and residents fleeing for their lives.
The fire resulting from the blast reportedly damaged several properties and adjoining buildings before emergency responders and security personnel arrived to contain the situation.
Governor Bassey Otu is expected to visit the scene later today to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate relief efforts for the victims.
While the exact cause of the explosion is still under investigation, emergency teams remain on-site to ensure the area is safe for residents.
