Grammys 2026: Tyla Beats Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr to Win Best African Music Performance

Tyla Grammy 2026 winner Best African Music Performance trophy

South African singer Tyla has triumphed over a strong field of Nigerian stars to win the Best African Music Performance award at the 2026 Grammy Awards. The Amapiano sensation clinched the prize with her hit Push 2 Start, marking her second win in the category since its 2024 inception.

Tyla edged out Nigerian heavyweights Burna Boy (Love), Davido (With You featuring Omah Lay), and Ayra Starr & Wizkid (Gimme Dat), as well as Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s Hope & Love. She first won the award in 2024 with her global breakout single Water, making her the inaugural recipient and now a two-time winner.

The category, introduced to spotlight African music globally, once again highlighted the dominance and influence of Nigerian artists, who occupied three of the five nomination slots. Despite this strong representation, Tyla’s continued crossover appeal and chart success secured her the trophy.

This win solidifies Tyla's position as a leading African export on the world stage and underscores the vibrant competitiveness of the continent's music scene, where Nigerian and South African artists continue to set the pace.
