The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended two women, Uzoma Nwabueze and Precious Monday, for allegedly trafficking a 16-year-old girl, Oluebube Chukwuma, to Ghana. The arrest was made in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, following technology-driven intelligence received on the evening of January 26.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives from the Ozubulu Division acted on the information leading to the suspects' capture. “They were arrested over a reported case of a missing 16-year-old girl,” Ikenga stated in a release issued in Awka on Tuesday.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the minor's disappearance and disclosed that the victim is currently in Ghana. In response, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has directed the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a comprehensive investigation.
The CP also ordered operatives to probe the circumstances of the girl's relocation to Ghana and to identify all other individuals involved for possible arrest. This case highlights the ongoing efforts by Nigerian security agencies to combat human trafficking, particularly the trafficking of minors across international borders.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to ensuring justice and rescuing the victim. Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the trafficking network and reunite the teenager with her family.
