Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 11 kidnapped victims and recovered arms and other items during coordinated military operations across the North-West and North-Central regions of the country.
A credible source at the Army Headquarters disclosed the development on Wednesday to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), stating that the successes were recorded under Operation Fansan Yamma, Operation MESA, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) and Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS).
According to the source, troops operating under Operation Fansan Yamma successfully rescued two truck drivers who were abducted along the Magami–Gusau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The victims were freed after sustained pressure from troops, which forced the terrorists to abandon them while fleeing through their withdrawal routes.

“In Sokoto State, troops recovered an AK-47 rifle abandoned on a farmland at Garin Hilo village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area, following actionable intelligence provided by members of the local community,” the source said.
The military also recorded significant gains under Operation MESA, where troops worked in collaboration with local vigilante groups to rescue kidnapped victims in Kogi and Kwara States.
In Kogi State, three farmers abducted at Ojiwo Egume community in Dekina Local Government Area were rescued during an operation that also led to the recovery of a motorcycle belonging to the kidnappers.
Similarly, in Kwara State, six villagers abducted from Ikosin village in Ifelodun Local Government Area were freed after troops engaged the kidnappers in a hot pursuit. The criminals reportedly fled the area, abandoning two motorcycles used for their operations.
The source added that efforts were still ongoing to rescue four additional victims who were abducted at Owa Onire in Ifelodun Local Government Area during a road construction project.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army noted that operations had been temporarily suspended in parts of Taraba State as part of efforts to restore peace and maintain stability in troubled areas, while operations continue in other flashpoints across the country.
The Army reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents in affected communities. (NAN)
