Popular Nigerian reality TV star and comedian, Aderombi Adedayo, widely known as DeeOne, has revealed that celebrity fashion designer Veekee James is his former romantic partner.
DeeOne made the disclosure while reacting to comments made by Veekee James during a recent interview on Unfiltered and Extra Spicy with Ify’s Kitchen podcast, where she described the comedian as an “unserious” person.
During the interview, Veekee James stated that DeeOne should not be taken seriously, suggesting that anyone who does otherwise might be “jobless or something else.” She added that she had not seen the comedian say anything serious in public.
Reacting to the remarks in a video shared on his Instagram page, DeeOne described the situation as “a blast from the past” and clarified that the fashion designer, whom he referred to as Ruth, was his former partner following his exit from Big Brother Naija in 2018.
“A lot of people don’t know this, when I came out from Big Brother Naija in 2018, myself and Ruth had something,” he said. “Correct babe, sweet, she’s good. That’s the truth of the matter.”
The comedian explained that their relationship ended due to personal differences, particularly his discomfort with what he described as excessive control. According to him, there was no bad blood between them and he treated her well during their time together.
DeeOne further stated that some individuals within the entertainment industry, including Veekee James’s husband, Femi James, were aware of their past relationship.
Despite expressing surprise at the remarks, DeeOne maintained a conciliatory tone, wishing Veekee James well in her personal life and career. He emphasised that he harboured no resentment and had fully moved on.
“But to be honest, I wish them the best. I’m a fan of whatever they are doing because I’m not a hater and I have moved on,” he said.
He also cautioned fans and social media users against taking celebrity issues personally, noting that there are many behind-the-scenes realities in the entertainment industry unknown to the public.
