The Lagos State Police Command has detained a 20-year-old content creator, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video showing him engaging in reckless driving on a public road.
The police confirmed the development on Wednesday through a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi. According to the statement, the incident is currently under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
The video, which circulated widely on social media on December 14, showed Hamzat allegedly driving dangerously while livestreaming, an act police said posed serious risks to his safety and that of other road users.
“The suspect was seen driving recklessly and crashing his vehicle while broadcasting the act live,” the police said, adding that such behaviour violates traffic laws and endangers public safety.
Following public concern raised by Lagos residents over the video, the police moved to detain Hamzat pending the conclusion of investigations. Authorities confirmed that he would be charged to court once investigations are completed.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, also issued a warning to social media influencers and content creators, urging them to desist from promoting dangerous or unlawful acts in the pursuit of online engagement.
Jimoh stressed that the Lagos State Police Command would not tolerate actions that threaten lives or public order, regardless of an individual’s social media status or following.
He further advised motorists across the state to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, noting that reckless driving remains a major cause of road accidents and avoidable loss.
The police reiterated their commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring the safety of all road users, while calling on the public to report any conduct that may pose a risk to lives or property.
