President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Senate’s approval for the appointment of new chief executives to oversee Nigeria’s key petroleum regulatory agencies, following the resignation of two top officials appointed under the previous administration.
The President nominated Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). The request was transmitted to the Senate for expedited confirmation.
The nominations come after the resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed, former CEO of the NMDPRA, and Gbenga Komolafe, former CEO of the NUPRC. Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari following the establishment of the regulatory bodies under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
According to details shared with lawmakers, President Tinubu emphasized the need for continuity and experienced leadership in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, especially at a time when reforms under the PIA remain critical to national economic stability and energy security.

Eyesan is a seasoned oil industry professional with nearly 33 years of experience at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and its subsidiaries. A graduate of Economics from the University of Benin, she served as Executive Vice President, Upstream, from 2023 to 2024 before retiring. She also previously held the position of Group General Manager, Corporate Planning and Strategy, between 2019 and 2023.
Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed, born in 1957 in Gombe State, is a Chemical Engineering graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He recently emerged as an independent non-executive director at Seplat Energy.
His extensive career includes serving as Managing Director of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Nigerian Gas Company, as well as chairing boards of major energy institutions such as the West African Gas Pipeline Company and Nigeria LNG subsidiaries.
Mohammed also served as Group Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Gas & Power Directorate, where he played a key role in major national projects including the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline Expansion, Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline, and Nigeria LNG Train projects, while contributing significantly to Nigeria’s gas policy framework and the Petroleum Industry Act.
