Son Hacks Father to Death Over Money Dispute in Benue, Flees Scene

A horrific incident has shaken the Nyamatsoo Mbagen community in Benue State as a man was allegedly hacked to death by his own son during a violent argument over money.


According to a report by security expert Zagazola Makama on X (formerly Twitter), the tragedy occurred on Saturday night. The suspect, identified as Ankyambe Tordue, reportedly attacked his father, Ankyambe Hembaor, with a machete after the elderly man refused to give him money.


The statement from Zagazola Makama read: "The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Saturday when Ankyambe Tordue, allegedly armed with a machete, attacked his father, Ankyambe Hembaor, after he refused to give him money. The victim was rushed to Agbecha Hospital, Nyamatsoo, where he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment."


Following the attack, community members rushed the severely injured father to Agbecha Hospital in the Nyamatsoo area, but he succumbed to his wounds while receiving medical attention. It was reported that the son immediately fled the community after the act.

    Local authorities have been notified and have launched a manhunt. The Divisional Police Officer in Buruku reportedly deployed officers to the scene, where they documented the incident and moved the deceased's body to a hospital mortuary.


    The report added: "Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspect, while the State Criminal Investigation Department has commenced a full investigation into the matter."


    When contacted for an official statement, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Udeme Edet, requested inquiries via text message but had not responded at the time of filing this report. This tragic event adds to the security concerns in Benue State, following previous reports of violent attacks in other local government areas.
