The official explanation stated that the foul was “not deemed to be denial of a goal-scoring opportunity (DOGSO)” because of the positioning of Brighton’s Senne Lammens and Minteh’s limited control of the ball at the time of contact.

Dorgu, who had just been substituted in for Amad Diallo when the incident occurred, gave away a free kick near the edge of the box and was cautioned by referee Anthony Taylor, prompting outrage on social media.
