Security agencies in Delta State have recorded a major victory in the fight against arms trafficking and banditry with the arrest of a notorious arms supplier allegedly linked to several deadly operations across northern Nigeria.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed the arrest of 31-year-old Ahmed Ibrahim, a resident of Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area, in a coordinated operation by the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT).

According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the breakthrough followed an intelligence-driven sting operation that first led to the arrest of a female suspect, Jamila Abubakar, at a filling station along the Warri–Patani Road in Effurun. Officers recovered ₦550,000 from her bag, believed to be proceeds from illegal arms transactions.

Further investigation led operatives to the Niger-Cat area of Warri, where Ibrahim was arrested around 7:25 a.m. on October 22, 2025. A search of his apartment uncovered 115 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 220 rounds of submachine gun ammunition, and 32 live cartridges.
Police intelligence reports reveal that Ibrahim had long been on the Command’s watchlist. He is suspected of involvement in several kidnapping and armed robbery operations, including the abduction and murder of Ogheneovo Onemu, who was kidnapped in Edjekota, Ughelli North, in May 2024. Despite her family’s ₦4 million ransom payment, she was later killed by her captors.
Speaking on the operation, Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the team’s success and described the arrest as a major stride toward dismantling criminal supply chains that empower violent groups.
“This is a strong message to those fueling insecurity through illegal arms trade. The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property across Delta State,” Abaniwonda said.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, reaffirming its readiness to sustain the crackdown on criminal networks across Nigeria.
