Allegri Warns Chukwueze After Goal in 9-0 Win: “Don’t Fall Into Depression”

Samuel Chukwueze celebrates goal for AC Milan in 9-0 win over Perth Glory

Following AC Milan’s crushing 9-0 victory over Perth Glory in their pre-season tour, head coach Massimiliano Allegri has issued a psychological warning to his squad — including Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze — urging them to maintain mental balance ahead of the new season.

Chukwueze, who had not scored for nearly five months, ended his goal drought during the match, finding the net in the first half. Other goals came from Noah Okafor (2), Rafael Leao (2), Yunus Musah, Filippo Terracciano, Samuele Ricci, and Christian Comotto, making it a one-sided affair.

Speaking after the match via Milan TV, Allegri said:
"We’ve had 25 days of solid training. But once we return to Italy, that’s when the real work begins. We must not get carried away with wins or fall into depression when things go wrong — it’s about mental balance over 38 matches."

This is Allegri’s return to Milan, and his emphasis on focus comes as Milan prepares for critical fixtures including two upcoming friendlies against Leeds United and Chelsea, before their Coppa Italia clash against Bari on August 17.

📰 Latest News Today

Chukwueze’s recent performances have attracted attention after a poor 2023/24 season, where he registered only three goals and two assists in 26 appearances, mostly off the bench.

Despite the goal, Chukwueze has been linked with a move away from San Siro. According to reports, Fulham is interested in securing the Nigerian winger’s services, and Milan is open to selling to ease their wage bill and recoup their €20m investment.

Allegri’s comments appear to be aimed at stabilizing a squad full of talent but also marked by inconsistencies. Chukwueze, still 26, will be keen to prove his worth in upcoming matches and silence critics.

The big win in Perth may have boosted morale, but Allegri is clear: the real battle starts now.
