Shock and grief have swept Ogun State after the brutal killing of Mrs. Blessing Eze, a female market trader allegedly stabbed by suspected religious extremists demanding a forced Eid al-Adha levy at the Info Market.

According to social commentator @EmekaGift100 on X (formerly Twitter), the tragedy unfolded on Thursday, June 6, when a group of young men claiming religious authority stormed the market to collect a compulsory ₦1,500 per shop levy “to support Eid prayers.” When they reached Mrs. Eze’s stall early in the morning, she explained she had not yet made any sales and requested they return later.
“People are not talking about that. I pray for Nigerians. We should stop telling lies,” wrote @EmekaGift100, describing how the assailants refused to relent and began vandalizing her goods. In defense of her property, Mrs. Eze confronted one of the men, demanding he compensate her. The confrontation quickly escalated, and one of the assailants allegedly pulled out a knife, fatally stabbing her in the chest. She died instantly.
