A disturbing case of child abuse has sparked outrage across Nigeria, as a viral video showed a 14-year-old girl identified as Bashariya revealing horrifying details of her treatment at the hands of her guardian in Abuja.

In the footage, which surfaced online over the weekend, Bashariya speaks in Hausa, recounting how she was brought to Abuja under the pretense of a better life but was instead subjected to starvation, beatings, and even physical burns.

The teenage girl, originally from Zamfara State, had been living in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp with her parents after fleeing bandit attacks in their hometown.

According to Bashariya, her parents agreed to send her to Abuja as a domestic maid, hoping for better opportunities. However, her reality turned into a nightmare.

The viral clip shows visible burn marks and both old and fresh bruises on her frail body, highlighting months—possibly years—of physical torture and neglect.

Reacting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Adewale Ajao, has ordered the immediate arrest of the woman allegedly responsible for the abuse.

Speaking to the press, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the directive. "The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao, has directed all Divisional Police Officers across the FCT to locate and apprehend the guardian responsible for this inhuman treatment," she stated.

The police have promised a thorough investigation, assuring the public that justice will be served. The video has ignited fresh calls for more robust child protection policies, especially regarding the employment and welfare of domestic workers across Nigeria.

Authorities are also urging residents with credible information to come forward to assist in the swift apprehension of the suspect.

As the nation watches and waits, there is growing demand for accountability and justice—not just for Bashariya, but for countless other vulnerable children trapped in similar abusive conditions.
