The Oyo State Government has launched an investigation after a police officer shot and killed a secondary school student during a traffic operation in Ibadan.

According to DAILY POST, the incident occurred on Alakia Old Road when officers attempted to arrest a driver violating traffic rules. A stray bullet struck the victim, who was inside the car. The government clarified that the operation targeted traffic offenders, not internet fraudsters as speculated. “The policeman involved is under investigation,” officials stated, adding that the victim’s father was driving against traffic when the shooting occurred.

The tragedy has sparked protests, with residents demanding justice. Authorities say the crackdown followed repeated accidents caused by one-way drivers.
