The Nigerian Army has confirmed the elimination of a notorious Boko Haram commander, Amir Abu Fatima, during a coordinated military operation in Borno State.

The operation was carried out by the Special Forces Battalion under Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
According to a statement issued on Friday night by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command, the offensive targeted terrorist hideouts in Alayaru village, located in the Alagarno general area of Kukawa Local Government Area.
Captain Kovangiya stated, “Troops, supported by air surveillance from MNJTF and Nigerian Air Force platforms, engaged the terrorists following credible intelligence reports. During the intense operation, three terrorists were neutralized, including the high-value target Amir Abu Fatima.”

Also killed were Abu Maryam and Abu Modu, both key lieutenants of Fatima and experts in improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The success of the mission was further highlighted by the recovery of several weapons and IED-making materials at the site.

Items seized from the scene included AK-47 rifles with magazines, hand grenades, radio communication devices, primed IEDs in four-litre kegs, sappers’ cables, detonators, phones, a motorcycle spare tyre, and various types of ammunition.
Captain Kovangiya urged citizens to continue sharing credible information to aid in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts across the North-East.
This latest military victory represents a significant setback for the remnants of Boko Haram and reinforces the Nigerian Army’s resolve to eliminate insurgent threats.
