According to a report by TimesLIVE, Tsakani Matlala was apprehended on Thursday night, and both she and her husband were remanded in custody following a bail hearing at Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Friday. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
The case is tied to a shooting incident that took place in October 2023, when gunmen ambushed Thobejane’s vehicle in the upscale Sandton suburb. While she escaped unharmed, her passenger sustained serious injuries and required extended hospital treatment.
The Matlalas face charges alongside two other suspects — 35-year-old Musa Kekana and 43-year-old Tiego Floyd Mabusela. During Friday’s hearing, legal counsel for the accused requested that no media photographs be taken during proceedings.
Defence attorney Victor Nkwashu confirmed that Mr. Matlala is willing to surrender his travel documents to meet any bail conditions. Additionally, lawyers for Kekana and Mabusela have asked the court to transfer their clients to Johannesburg Correctional Facility due to unfavorable conditions at their current holding location.

Meanwhile, the alleged hired gunmen are expected to appear in court separately on July 11, with their trial scheduled to take place at the Johannesburg High Court. Prosecutors anticipate a lengthy legal battle due to the number of individuals involved and the complexity of the charges.
