Most Rev. Isaac Nwaobia, the Anglican Archbishop of Aba Province, has called on Nigerian leaders, including President Bola Tinubu and state governors, to prioritize the welfare of the poor in their policies.
Speaking at the Sixth Synod of the Diocese of Isiala Ngwa South in Abia State, Nwaobia described leadership as a divine responsibility, not just a political office. Quoting Romans 13, he reminded leaders that they are "God’s servants for the people’s good" and must govern with compassion.
According to The Sun, the Archbishop expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s worsening economic hardship, warning that policies must not further impoverish citizens. He condemned corruption, nepotism, and a lack of accountability, urging leaders to focus on justice and development.
Nwaobia also cautioned the judiciary against compromise, stating, "When courtrooms lose integrity, society descends into chaos." His message comes as political leaders prepare to mark their second year in office on May 29.
The Synod, themed "Transformational Leadership: A Panacea for Total Development," drew top Anglican clerics and laity. Nwaobia’s sermon serves as a moral wake-up call for Nigeria’s leaders to act in the people’s best interest.
