“VP Is a Spare Tyre” – Jimi Disu Warns Peter Obi Against Atiku’s Offer

Jimi Disu warns Peter Obi against VP role under Atiku Abubakar

Veteran journalist Jimi Disu has issued a strong warning to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, urging him not to accept any offer to run as vice president under Atiku Abubakar in the proposed 2027 opposition coalition.

Speaking on Nigeria Info FM 99.3, Disu emphasized the lack of constitutional power held by the vice president in Nigeria. His comment follows widespread speculation that Obi was being offered the VP slot by Atiku, which Obi has publicly denied. Obi stated he is involved in coalition talks to tackle bad governance and poverty, not for personal ambition.

Disu, however, remained skeptical. “A Vice President is a spare tyre, and Peter Obi must be cautious. He is dealing with a seasoned politician,” Disu said. He added that trusting Atiku could backfire, warning that the vice presidency often carries no real influence.

He also cited past political drama, alluding to instances where vice presidents have been sidelined or humiliated. Disu noted, “You could be made Vice President and end up worse than the man who was mocked for calling the role a joke.”

His statement has fueled further debate among political analysts and supporters regarding Obi’s next political move ahead of the 2027 elections.
