Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has vowed to continue his aggressive crackdown on cultism despite threats, receiving massive support from youth groups across the state. During a peaceful rally at Government House in Benin City on Tuesday, the governor declared: "Every Edo blood matters to us. Cultism must stop!"
According to Governor Okpebholo, the administration's tough stance stems from the need to protect both citizens and potential investors. "Edo must be safe for all. Otherwise, investors will be afraid to come," he stated, referencing recent demolitions of buildings linked to cult activities which he insists followed due process.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria's Edo Chapter Chairman, Moses Joseph, confirmed widespread youth support: "We're all tired of cult killings and drug abuse in our state." Human rights activist Precious Oruche added that cult-related deaths had become "almost ritualistic" before Okpebholo's intervention, praising his swift actions while cautioning security agencies against victimizing innocent citizens during investigations.
